The practice of massage therapy involves the assessment & treatment of soft tissue and joints of the body by means of:
- range of motion testing
- muscle testing
- soft tissue manipulating
- (which involves massage, trigger point therapy, myofascial release, etc.)
- hydrotherapy
- remedial exercise program
- client self-help programs
Yes, there are 3 major types of massage: Therapeutic, Relaxation and Sports Massage. The difference between them would be in the speed & depth that the various techniques are applied. Besides the basic Swedish techniques, the therapist has other modalities that can be combined to maximize the results during one session.
Verifying Credentials Of An RMT
All Registered Massage Therapists (RMT's) have completed at least 2200 hours of studies, passed provincial exams set by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, and been issued both a photo ID card and Certification of Registration. You have the right to ask to see either of these pieces of identification in order to be assured that your therapist is registered.
